You asked me
Once what I wanted.

And I struggled to tell you.

I could never find the words
To show you,
That I can’t live without you.

I could never find the words
To describe how you keep
Me from the darkness
That calls to me.

But when you left,
I shouted them from
The rooftops.

I screamed until
My throat was raw.

That all I really wanted
Was you.

Endless moments,
Comfortable silences,
Nights as beautiful
And as calming
As those eyes of yours.

When my nights grew colder,
I wrapped my arms around my
Thoughts,
Just to feel you there.

Because even though they still sting,
My memories are all I have left of you,
And I can’t let them go.
