I press play
And the song
Fills the air.
I close my eyes
And I hear her quivering voice
Set lyrics to my memories.
The stirring melody mixed with the
Lavender and rose incense
Wafting through my room,
Bring all of my emotions
To the forefront.
But just like she,
“I’m too sad to cry.”
Lost moments flood
My mind;
Images of you and I
And blissful happiness,
Make it all so heavy.
My heart breaks for you.
My soul aches for you.
So I swallow my pride,
I try to have courage.
But my thoughts are
Consumed by your smile
I try not to think of how
You once looked at me.
I try not to feel the pain.
I curl up in a ball,
And try not to hear
You say that you love me
Over and over.
But it just won’t stop.
Her words haunt me
And every line hurts so bad.
I take a breath
And ask myself,
Can I just sit here awhile
To remember your voice.
So I won’t forget what you
Sound like.
Or should I just sit here awhile
And try to let you go.
Because I don’t think
I have the strength
To love you anymore.
