God, how I wished
I was the one for you.

I wish that when you
Looked at me,
Your heart would stop
Like mine does for you

I wish so many things.
I wish I could be yours.

But instead,
I sit here,
Listening to sad songs
Thinking of you.
And borrowing yesterday’s apology.

I’m sorry she broke your heart
So well,
That you can’t see what’s right
In front of you.

I think maybe,
One day you will.

And I’ll blink and wake up forgiven
For the hearts, I’ve broken.
And the mistakes I’ve made.

I can see
What our love would look
Like, too.

Picture perfect in broken glass.
Two ripped-up hearts
Mending and finally
Finding peace.

And when that happens
The sun will rise, and I’ll feel
Like I’ve been floating on the breeze.

But for now,
I’ll wipe my tears
With the back of my hand,
Listen to the song play again,
And wait for you to call.

Because you always do
And I’m always here.
