It was an end of an era,
So she bade him a
September goodbye.

With no words,
Just a kiss
Like ghostly sighs.

With smoke from her
Ashen halo,
Encircling his head
Like the sweet perfume of petrichor.

He will never forget her.

She wept once more
As she watched the moonlight
Dance on her skin.

Laying in wilt and heartache.
Knotted & bound
By his memory,
Under those glistening stars.

Her soldier boy
Will always think of her.

Between the swaying trees
And forest whispers,
His mind will always be fixed on her.

For she was his night
And her love stayed burning the sky.
