“Please don’t forget me.”
The last words I said to you
Before running away.
You begged me to stay
To come closer to you.
You begged me to trust
You enough to fall.
But I was afraid.
Afraid to be held
And understood.
Afraid to be loved.
Afraid to be all
Tangled up in you.
You see,
I’m broken.
Tattered and torn
And my scars scatter
Across my skin like stars
And pierce my sorrow like a dagger
To the heart.
You made me see the
Beauty of my demons
And it frightened me.
I convinced myself
That once you saw
The ugly side of me,
You would leave.
You would turn away,
Like so many others have
Before you.
So I ran.
Spent lonely nights,
In the cold without you.
Dreamt of you.
Wished for you.
So now I take the
Treacherous journey
Back.
Because my heart
Simply cannot
Beat without you.
My inward road home
Is paved with golden
Flowers and memories of tomorrow
And it all leads back to you.
Because it’s always you.
Please, wait for me.
