The New Moon: My Haunted Memories

On nights like tonight,
When the moon is hidden
And the sky is dotted
With stars,
I’m reminded of the
Things we lost and how
We both said our goodbyes.

I remember when I
Tore my soul to stop
Your bleeding.
And how you laid your head
Upon my lap,
When the tears kept falling.

But I believe now more than ever,
That though you are not around,
And I can’t just answer your call,
We still look for each other on nights
like this.

Nights where the moon is new
And the breeze chills our flesh.
Ones where we hear the
Echoes of secrets we shared,
In the trees.
Ones where it’s quiet and we’re
Alone with the words we’d never
Say out loud.

But as I sit here,
Ruminating and reminiscing,
I speak to the moon about you
Again.
Ask her if I am but a lonely
Soul,
Destined to live out my days
Without you.

I ask if you, too, are thinking about
Me and what we had.
Do you still talk to her,
Like you talked to me?

Is this reality, or are we
Dreaming?
Will I wake up to you
By my side,
With your hand in mine
And a love beyond life,
That never ends?

I ask her a million more
Questions and just before
My tears dry,
I hear a voice call from so far
Away.
I hear my name in the wind.

I see your face reflecting off of
The stars,
And I know you’re here tonight,
And with me is where you’ll stay.

Because the moon has
Brought you back to me
And we both don’t have to
Cry anymore.

I've always had a passion for writing. In this crazy world that we live in, I find my solace in made up words and make believe stories. Let's escape into the void and forget about it all just for a moment or two.
