At my weakest,
And my deadest end,
I had you.
To love me,
Through my smiles
And screams.
And through Autumn’s cold breeze.
I had you,
To hear my poetic confessions
Like a priest,
Without judgment.
And to forgive me for my sins,
Even for those I hadn’t committed
Yet.
I had you to save me from
Drowning,
In the dark recesses of my mind.
So I would not be lost in the dark
Depths of it.
Could it have been a trick
Of a haunted heart?
To coax me
From the shadows
That I hid behind?
Or could it have been love?
The true love of cursed souls.
Whatever the cause,
Whatever the reason
I had you.
To guide my steps,
To slow my anxious breath
With your kisses.
To ease my worries,
So, I may leave it all behind.
I had you,
When I had nothing else.
And when Charon comes
To take me home,
I’ll have you, still.
Eternity be damned.
