On a ruin of roses
I claimed you as mine.
I kissed your lips and felt
Your heart beating like
Caged butterflies wanting
Freedom.
I looked into your eyes and
In an instant,
I saw every fear you’ve ever
Harbored and every sob you’ve
Ever sobbed.
I knew in my heart,
That I would never leave you.
Though my better Angels
Begged me to do so.
Because our love is reckless,
And wild.
This much I’ve told you before.
We’re damned,
In the eyes of everyone we know.
But how could they truly
Know what we share?
The demons that follow and
Addle us.
The nightmares that seek
To take us under.
My soul knows you.
It knew you from the first
Words we spoke.
Knew you from the faraway
Look in your eyes.
Knew you like the shadows
That follow me all of my
Days.
Until Death’s last drum beat
And the imperfect are made
Pristine,
I am yours, and you are mine.
Until tears no longer stream
Down our cheeks
And hearts no longer break on
Full moon nights
I am yours, and you are mine.
Until tragedy no longer slings
Its arrows,
And our nights become forever,
I am yours, and you are mine.
So love me until eternity’s kiss
And the Moon takes her final bow.
Love me until we meet our end,
And the pain of it all,
Is no more.
